Design in Detail: Essential Bed

Calm, grounded minimalism.

A cozy bedroom with a wooden bed, white bedding, a beige rug, and soft natural light streaming through large windows with sheer curtains. The room is viewed through a rounded archway.

Following the Classic Bed, the Essential Bed shares clean lines, premium, eco-friendly materials, and simple set-up with its predecessor. In aesthetic, the Essential Bed complements the Classic Bed’s expressive versatility with its elegant form and sleek simplicity, offering a pared-back, honed-in approach for the modern bedroom.

Exceptionally streamlined, the Essential Bed is the purest form of the platform bed frame. Its minimalism is evident from assembly. With only nine parts total, it can be set up in a matter of minutes. The Essential Bed shares the Classic Bed’s craftsmanship technique of Japanese joinery, ensuring not only smooth set-up, but a strong, sturdy, and silent foundation. In contrast, the Essential Bed utilizes interior Japanese joinery, completely concealed once assembled. Along with interior hand screws, this departure from the Classic Bed’s design of exterior joints ensures an impeccably smooth appearance.

The hallmark of the design is the continuous and subtly curved frame, crafted from solid, upcycled rubberwood. Visible and celebrated are the distinct wood knots and grains of this sustainable material, which is used across the Bedroom Collection. Distinctly low-profile, the Essential Bed roots the room in minimalism, inspiring a sense of serenity. The frame sits nearly flush against the floor, measuring 11” in height. Cementing its tranquil modernity, the approximate 2” mattress inset furthers the bed’s grounded, calming feel.

The frame alone offers an especially clean aesthetic, while the frame’s compatibility with the Pillowboard provides pro-lounge comfort in an equally minimal form. The headboard-pillow hybrid features a sleek silhouette that pairs effortlessly with Essential Bed’s highly refined shape. As the Bedroom Collection expands, further upgrades are in the works for the Bedroom Collection’s most elemental bed frame.
